From the ADAA Chair ... April 2007

The year started a little slowly with regards to competitions, but March definitely highlighted that the competition season is well and truly under way. Specifically we had the Petacular Spectacular in Brisbane. This event replaced the annual Brisbane Pet & Animal Expo and was held in quite a different format than previous years. Thanks to the members who helped and/or competed with their dog over the two days as they presented ADAA and Agility to the general public in a really professional manner.

Special congratulations to Jody Brown for becoming ADAA’s newest Level 1 Judge. Jody judged at the Easter competition festival held at Yamba. This was the inaugural event for the Yamba Dog Sport Training Group Inc and it was quite fitting that Jody and Wayne Stutz were two of the Judges at the event, given their support for the club since its inception. The Club, with support from its small band of members, local businesses, other sponsors, Brisbane Agility Dog Club and the local council and all of the other ADAA members who helped out on the weekend held a fabulous event with a great atmosphere and facilities.

The next major event on the ADAA calendar is the Queensland Training Camp. This will be held 23-24 June 2007. This is aimed at all levels of handlers and dogs and allows you to have a weekend away, staying onsite, at this fully catered popular event. Details, including booking forms, are available, with significant discounts for early bird bookings before 31 May 2007. The schedule for the NSW Training Camp (to be held in September) will be released in the not too distant future.

The Medallion Stakes have passed half way in both states. A number of dogs have already achieved enough points for their Bronze Medallion, with some already well on their way to Silver. Perhaps this will be the first year that a Gold Medallion is achieved. If time is tight and you need to check out which competitions have Medallion Stakes rounds, check out the rules which include the relevant competition dates. Individual competition schedules highlight the actual event for Medallion Stakes.

A reminder that the Agility Regulations 8th Edition, that commenced July 2006, restricts training in the ring. This commences from when you enter the ring or, if there is no ring marked, from the start area and includes tugging, play, having food in your hand, and/or repeating obstacles. No food/toys may be given/used until after you and your Dog have left the competition ring area.

Grand Prix 2007 update

Have you decided on how you will represent the 'True Blue' theme for the Sunday buffet dinner at Uralla yet?
Have you organised your team yet?
What about your preparation for the 24 weave pole challenge?

These are the questions you need to be asking yourself, because this year’s Grand Prix is now less than six months away!!

The Grand Prix schedule and entry forms are now on the website. This year has many new additions, so please pay careful attention to what Challenges you are now able to enter (we wouldn't want anyone to miss out!). Don't forget that even if you don't have a title with your dog, that you may enter the Starters and Intermediate Challenges!

And now for Uralla tip number 1...

Want an inexpensive shirt that will reflect your team name (and keep you warm!!)? Why not order a Grand Prix 2007 Rugby top on your entry ($35) and specify your team's name (maximum of 15 characters) on the back for an additional $10!

May you enjoy your training with your dog and achieve your goals.
