![]() From the ADAA Chair ... April 2009ADAA will hold the Queensland Training Camp on 20 - 21 June 2009, and the schedule and registration information are now available. The Camp programme has been designed to suit absolute beginners (handlers and/or dogs) through to those currently participating in Intermediate classes. As per last year, registrations will be accepted for one day so if you don’t have a whole weekend to spend away from home, put aside one of the days. If you haven’t already checked it out, the schedule for Dogmania 2009 – Canine Sports Carnival, to be held 2 – 4 May 2009, has been released. Early entries have closed however Late Entries are being accepted up to and including 20 April 2009. Whether or not you are entered this will be a great local spectacle and you should come and check out the various stalls of doggy related merchandise (and perhaps even help out for a few hours). Members are reminded that scribe tents are out of bounds for competitors and/or their dogs. This is even more so when the weather is inclement. This requirement is to ensure the health and safety of scribes, handlers and dogs, as well as to allow the scribe and scorekeeper to be able to effectively undertake their roles without interruption. ADAA’s Board has released a Dog Measuring Policy outlining the dog measuring rules and avenues for the re-measuring of Dogs. You are encouraged to familiarise yourself with the Policy and to bring it to the attention of other/new members of ADAA. Please contact myself or a member of the Judges Management Committee if you have a query. Arrangements for the IFCS World Agility Championships Selection Competition to be held 6-7 June 2009 are currently being finalised and will be released very shortly. There will be six Open A and two Advanced events on both days (Saturday and Sunday). Saturday’s events will start in the afternoon, allowing those who wish to travel to Macksville on the Saturday and then return home on Sunday after the competition is finished. So whether you want to try out for the WAC Team, or just come along for an exceptional weekend of Agility, put this weekend aside. There are onsite powered camp sites available at the Showgrounds so once there you can settle in for a great couple of days, or head to some of the beach areas for some R&R with your dog(s) and family. For those who are interested in trying out of the Australian WAC Team, don’t forget that Expressions of Interest for Team Coach and Team Handlers close on or before 30 April 2009. Please note that in order to be eligible for selection as a Wild Card the Handler must participate in at least one of the advertised Selection Competitions. Members are advised that there is also another exciting event added to the Agility calendar for 2009. It is the World Dog Games (WDG) to be held 30 October – 1 November 2009 at Acer Arena at Homebush and run by Chugg Entertainment. This is likely to be the biggest canine event ever held in Australia and will include not only live competitions/shows but international seminar presenters, demonstration areas and stalls/ merchandise. The WDG will have competitions for Agility, Frisbee, Flyball and Dock Dogs, will be hosted by a well-known TV personality and have a one hour TV show of highlights over the summer season. ADAA is hosting the Agility competition and there will be two classes (limited to four dogs per class) competing over five Agility courses with first place prize money of $10,000 for each class. There will be separate releases about the WDG and Agility at the WDG in the near future, however members are advised that the Try Outs for the WDG will be conducted at the June WAC Selection Competition to be held at Macksville. The WDG Agility classes will be open to all ADAA Members and will be at Open A standard. We want the WDG Agility finals to be the best of the best Agility dogs in Australia. If you are think that is you, then you should definitely try out. May you enjoy your training with your dog and achieve your goals. Cathy Slot |
