From the ADAA Chair ... January/February 2009

It is just a single month that has passed in 2009, yet given that so much has happened it seems like a millennium.

First of all Dogmania 2009 – Canine Sports Carnival has been confirmed and will be held 2-4 May 2009. Please keep your eyes on the Dogmania website and ADAAchat for more details.

The next piece of important news is that the venue and dates for the IFCS World Agility Championships 2010 have been set and ADAA has been offered a full complement of host dogs so that we can send a team of up to 12 Handlers to compete the next World Championships. Can you believe that? There is the possibility of 12 Handlers from Australia going and competing at the next World Championships. Let’s think about the development of this. Steve Drinkwater was the Oceania representative for IFCS and judged (and Cathy Slot attended and assisted officials) at the 2004 WAC (in Spain). Steve again judged and this time was the Chief Judge for the 2006 WAC (in the Netherlands). In 2008 Steve was Chief Judge and Cathy Slot judged and provided administrative support (in Belgium). This was the first year that Australia had a team on the field, Mal Williams and Tracey Harrison-Hill ran host dogs from Belgium and Penny Mead was the Team Captain.

The ADAA Board has completed an IFCS WAC Selection – 2010 document together with Expressions of Interest Forms for Team Captain, Team Coach and Team Handlers. If you are remotely interested in any of these roles, please download the relevant documents from ADAA’s website. It is important that you pay close attention to closing dates as absolutely no late submissions will be accepted. Expressions of Interest for Team Captain close on or before 31 March 2009, and Expressions of Interest for Team Coach and Team Handlers close on or before 30 April 2009. For Team Handlers there will be two WAC Selection Competitions – you can choose to participate in both or either, 6-8 June 2009 and at the Grand Prix 2-5 October 2009. Schedules/details for the June event will be released as soon as possible. And, of course, Australia would love to take as big a group, cheering our selected handlers on, as we can to the UK. So even if you don’t feel up to throwing your hand in the ring for the selections, there is lots of fun to be had by joining the group on its journey to the UK. How about it?

May you enjoy your training with your dog and achieve your goals.
