From the ADAA Chair ... June 2009

June is certainly shaping up to be one of the “hottest” Agility months for ADAA ever, starting with ADAA’s first ever competition in Western Australia, then the ADAA Macksville Double Header Weekend, then the Kioloa camping weekend (NSW), the ADAA South East Queensland Training Camp and finishing off with a single day competition at PADS (Qld). There has certainly been much to rave about during the month and much more excitement to come before the year is out.

ADAA’s first competition in Western Australia, no less than a triple header, was a phenomenal success. Mal Williams and I had the pleasure of judging nearly 400 runs the first day, with that reducing for the following two days as many dogs achieved their AAD title and a couple their SAAD/R-SAAD title. It was a great atmosphere at the competition and it only took the first event of the day before everyone was jumping up and helping with scribing, stewarding and time-keeping. Special thanks to Penny Mead for picking up her own flights and travelling over to WA to help out and do all of the admin duties associated with the competition.

This was followed a week later by the ADAA Macksville Double Header weekend. In addition to 24 of the IFCS World Agility Championship (WAC) Handler nominees, a strong group of ADAA members and dogs headed to the venue to compete in the full schedule of Open events. Have a read of the WAC update on ADAA’s webpage (which includes detailed results for WAC Selection events, courses and a photo of many of the WAC nominees). The weekend also included the World Dog Game (WDG) Agility Try Outs (results for the WDG as well as the other events are available below for download). Congratulations to the Maxi WDG finalists - Denise Crook with Lexie (Qld), Elsina Meyer with Beljekali Gypsy in Black (NSW), Amanda Pacher with Marty (NSW) and Kriszty Cumming with Bellview FoxyLady (WA). Congratulations also to the Mini WDG finalists – Nicole Ford with Tiakina Tour De Force (WA), Jim Hull with Gidget (NSW), Andrea Gibney with Sammy (NSW) and Alyssa Ablitt with Rustufarion Kosmik Trekn (NSW). They will all travel to the WDG to be held at Acer Arena at the end of October and we wish them all the best for the finals.

Don’t forget that ADAA has schedule fundraiser competitions in Qld for the Australian Team heading over to the WAC (see our Calendar). The first was very successful and held in May at the PADS grounds, the second will be held at the ADCQ grounds in September (schedule will be up very shortly). I’m sure that all support at these events will be gratefully received by the team members who head over to the UK to represent our country. Also, the current WAC Fundraising raffle will be drawn at the PADS competition 27 June 2009, so if you don’t already have your tickets (prizes are portrait of your dog by the artist who does ADAA’s Handler Awards (donated by ADAA), Greg Derrett On Course to Excel DVD (donated by Yunde Canine Enterprises) or Susan Garrett 2x2 Weave Poles DVD (donated by Yunde Canine Enterprises) – winner’s choice of first, second and third (DVD’s can be swapped for other product from Yunde).

Then last weekend was the ADAA NSW Kioloa weekend with members staying onsite at the Caravan Park, cabins, vans and camping where the park put on Saturday lunch and everyone visits the local beach before and after the event. Thanks to Nicola Read for putting the event together and Julia Barnett for looking after all of the entries.

ADAA’s South East Queensland Training Camp is being held this weekend and there has been a great response from members registering for the camp this year so we have our fingers crossed for another weekend of fine weather. The programme caters for those wishing to stay at the venue for the whole weekend (catering supplied) or just coming along for one day.

This year’s Grand Prix schedule and entry forms are now available on ADAA’s website. Thank you to the event’s Major sponsor Brisbane Pet Motel (Dog and Cat Boarding and Pet Transport) plus the other sponsors who have come on board for 2009. However don’t forget you can also contribute with as little as $10-00 towards the event (whether or not you are attending). Early entries close on 12 July 2009 and the late close is 13 August 2009. So check it out now. Don’t forget the Grand Prix will be the second WAC Selection round so we expect another display of exceptional dog training and handling. If you didn’t make it to the Double Header, don’t miss out on the Grand Prix. If you don’t have a dog or aren’t ready to run in the Grand Prix, then we are always looking for HERO’s to help out over the weekend.

May you enjoy your training with your dog and achieve your goals.
