A number of members have received significant milestones with their dog over the past month or so. Maria Thiry and Roxy became the first time to achieve their MAAD10 title (December 2005). Since then Steve Drinkwater and Tommy have achieved their MAAD10 as has Tandy Allen with Flicka. As I finalise my report to you, I hear that Merrilee McGee achieved the final International & Clear Round Certificate required for Magpie to be the first to achieve the International Agility Dog Title (see photo at the end of this report).
The Board of Directors with, in a number of cases, assistance from members, has been working hard on a variety of projects. Thank you to those who have stepped up and offered their assistance during the past month, it is certainly appreciated. For those who have contemplated volunteering but don’t want to be committed for the next 20 years <smile> then there are both short-term and long-term activities. Of course, competitions are one place that nearly all members can assist – call steward, scribe and score-keeper are a requisite part of every event. Those who would prefer to increase their skills before volunteering can learn all about Stewarding for an Agility Competition through the package available on the website, complete the questionnaire at the end of the notes and send to ADAA. Members who achieve 80% or higher will receive a lovely certificate.
The Brisbane Pet & Animal Expo is one activity coming up in the next couple of weeks, 17-19 March 2006. Thank you to everyone who has nominated. We are just waiting on entry passes to be received from the Expo organisers and then we will pass on final information to attendees. Please note your diary that the NSW and Qld ADAA Training Camps will both be held 24 to 25 June 2006 (see our Calendar). If you would like to volunteer to assist with the camps (instructing, pre-camp organising, on-site organising) would you please email Marion Allen (for Qld Camp) and Siegfried Clever (for NSW Camp). Camp details are currently being put together and will be available from the website/mail out in the near future.
The Board has approved, in principle, the changes to the Agility Regulations that will become effective on 1 July 2006. The changes ensure that the Regulations maintain ADAA’s consistency with international trends and include substantial increases to both the Regular and Junior Programmes. Once the wording has been approved by the Board, the Provisional draft of the Regulations will be posted to ADAA’s website. An electronic copy will be made available to members during a “cooling-off” period to allow for feedback prior to finalisation.
On a more sombre note, members are reminded that they have an obligation to be vigilant at all times and manage their dog(s) responsibly such that it does not become a nuisance or pose a risk to fellow members and their dogs or the general public. You are also required to declare any incidents involving yourself and/or any dogs registered with ADAA that may affect ADAA, ADAA's insurance cover and/or your membership of ADAA as soon as possible after the incident.
The Board of Directors hope that you too share the excitement of being a member of an Association with a vision for the direction of its Agility programme and member services that will take it through the next five years.
Finally I would like to echo the sentiments of Lyndal Nichols in her President’s report (see report - 75 kb PDF - opens in new window) presented to the Suncoast Fundogs Agility Club Inc Annual General Meeting (other than her reference to the best looking and most intelligent dogs, because we all know that would by my German Shepherd Asko <big grin>). Agility is all about enjoying yourself with your doggy companion. It is certainly a sport that allows you to participate to the extent that you feel comfortable, and to be a part of a group of people who genuinely support newcomers through to those with advanced skills.
May you enjoy your training with your dog and achieve your goals.
