![]() From the ADAA Chair ... August / September 2009All ten Rounds for this year’s Medallion Stakes are now complete. It is great to see the number of dogs achieving Gold Medallions increasing each year as well as the number of dogs from the Regular Programme also achieving medallions. Therefore congratulations to the following:
Notice of this year’s ADAA Annual General Meeting has now been issued. The AGM will be held prior to commencement of the competition at Wild About Agility Gold Coast - Agility Dog Club Inc on 21 November 2009. Members are reminded that nominations for Regional Representatives close 60 days before the Annual General Meeting and General Representatives close 30 days before the Annual General Meeting. Following a review of the Interim Kennel Cough Policy, introduced in 2008, the Board has released its Canine Contagious Diseases Policy (PDF 37 kb). This has taken into account valuable information from members who have diligently reported incidents of contagious diseases (predominantly kennel cough) and allowed the Board to continue with its policy of allowing unaffected dogs that may have been in contact with an affected dog (other than those from the same household) to continue to participate in training and competitions. We ask all members to familiarise themselves with the Policy. Congratulations to all of our new Victorian members for a great competition in Melbourne, ADAA’s first. It was a great weekend, although the weather wasn’t quite so welcoming on Sunday with rain and wind but we left with lots of enthusiastic support. Mal Williams and I were also very impressed with some of the great dogs and handlers that we judged over the weekend. I would also like to congratulate Lyn Robinson with Jasper who managed to get around our open and flowing courses on her electric chair/scooter and I’m pretty sure Jasper earned enough cards for his AAD title over the weekend. We are working really hard to raise funds to send the Australian Team to the IFCS World Agility Championships to be held in the UK in May 2010 and would like to really THANK everyone who has supported the team, whether that be through purchase of WAC merchandise, buying raffle tickets, donating items, attending fundraiser events and even direct donations towards the team. At this stage there is still a long way to go (we have banked about $10,000), however there are quite a few projects in progress and/or being planned. In Qld there have been two WAC fundraiser competitions and one in NSW. These seem to be a win/win for everyone, so there are more being planned. A training day (Focus on Handling) has also been given by the Qld team nominees, to rave reviews by the attendees. If you are in NSW you aren’t missing out as a Training Day is being held on 17 October 2009, so check out the programme and get your registration in. Don’t forget to tell your other Agility friends, as they can join ADAA (for the minimal sum of $15-00 for three years) and come along as well! From a merchandise point of view, there are lots to look after you – the WAC polo shirts and jerseys, with caps on their way, as well as WAC supporter t-shirts. If you are looking for some equipment, Jim Hull & Lisa Henshaw have donated a refurbished dog-walk and are auctioning that on e-bay with all proceeds going to WAC fundraising. It is listed on Ebay item number 220475454461 as Dog Agility Dog-walk used renovated. Finally, and most importantly, ADAA is doing a photo calendar as part of the fundraising efforts for WAC and running a competition for photos to appear on the calendar. Photo submissions close on Friday 25 September 2009, there is no fee to enter/submit a photo – have a look at the WAC fundraising page of ADAA’s website for all of the details. Again, I can only express sincere gratitude at all of the support from all members. I would also like to thank all of the WAC nominees for their hard work. Entries for the Grand Prix have closed and Alison Muddle and her team are bringing all of the final touches together. Don’t forget any title applications must be received on or before 15 September in order to be processed before the Grand Prix, otherwise they will be held until 3 October 2009. We have had a nice increase on entries to the Grand Prix including members travelling from WA. But whether you are a seasoned Grand Prix “veteran”, a first-timer or a spectator, we look forward to you having a great time at the event and, of course, to seeing your representation of “All Things Pommie” on Sunday night. The World Dog Games are just around the corner, well, at the end of October. ADAA is donating its contribution from ticket sales to the WAC team and will also be promoting all of our WAC merchandise to the general public at the event. The event comprises two parts, the Spectacular, where eight of our members will be competing on centre stage, and DogFest which will include lectures and presentations on many different topics (including Agility by Greg Derrett) and lots of dog related items and activities to satisfy everyone’s tastes. So we encourage you and your friends to come along and enjoy the event, it will definitely be a first of its kind for Australia, showcasing some of our favourite dog sports. I would like to thank everyone who has volunteered to help at the event. We are just awaiting indicative timetables/schedules and will then be in contact with you all to confirm the details. May you enjoy your training with your dog and achieve your goals. Cathy Slot |
