The Second Starters course for PADS on the 28 May05. The best place to lead out to was for the handler to be between hurdles 2 and 3.  As long as the dog was left in a stay out to the side of the jump as shown in Figure 1, then this was a nice straight line for the dog to run. The change of direction was between hurdle 2 and 3 and this is where the front cross should have been done. Some handlers left their dog square to the first hurdle and lead out to between hurdle 1 and 2 and therefore took a longer line and slowed the dog down and made more running for themselves. After hurdle 3, it was probably quickest to do a front cross before the tunnel at 4. If handlers were not able to do this then they could easily rear cross the tunnel at 6. As the dog was exiting the tunnel at 6, another front cross was required to send the dog into the weavepoles. Obstacles 8 and 9 could be done with the dog on the left hand side of the handler.

There was another change of direction from hurdle 9 to the Aframe 10. This was an excellent place to do a front cross to both tighten the turn and get onto the other side of the dog for the upcoming tunnel and the run home. Once the dog exited the tunnel at 12, then it was just a big fast run home.
