Handler Profile (May 2006) ~ Keith Thomas

Where do you live? I live in Annandale which is a suburb of Townsville in North Queensland the best part of Australia.
(Unbiased Opinion )

Occupation: I am an Electrician but these days spend all my time sitting at a computer ensuring that all the Citiwater Electrical Staff stay within the law.

Describe yourself in 25 words or less: I can now say I am on the wrong side of Sixty but then you are only as old as you feel (They tell me).  After a two day comp I must be Eighty. I am still enjoying Agility, and as I have a dog I haven’t started yet, hope to do so for a while yet.

Describe your Agility vehicle: At the moment Two. A Subaru Forrester and a Mitsubishi Triton Ute.

When did you start playing Agility and what drew you to the sport? Saw a short segment on TV and thought that would be a good thing to do.

Dogs and their achievements:

Kirra

A Foxy/ Jack Russell cross who is the ultimate Velcro dog. She has her AAD and because of her handicap (me ) will probably retire at that level. But we will both have a ball until that time.

Boss

A Tenterfield Terrier. This nine month old terrorist has not started yet and if Lyn (The Better Half) doesn’t throttle him first, hopefully will make a great agility dog.

Where do you train your dogs? With TOADS at Heatley Park in Townsville.

What do you like about Agility? The ability to do things with your dog that you both enjoy and the interesting people you get to meet.

When did you start in agility? Four years ago. I wish I had discovered it much earlier.

What is your favourite Agility event? Jumping because there are no contacts and I really love the pairs games. They are so much fun and for me that’s what is all about.

What is the most important piece of advice that you have been given about Agility? It’s not your dog’s fault.

What was the most difficult training problem that you have had to overcome? Still have it. Contacts because of no advice when I first started. Have given up on her ever working away.

What are your most memorable moments in agility?  I think the first time at Burrum Heads what a great weekend. Sorry I missed this year.

What will your next dog be and when do you think you will get it? Tenterfield Terrier. 10 Months ago.

What is your favourite training game and how do you play it? Don’t know.

What is your next goal in agility? To train Boss the correct way and to make his breeder and myself proud of him.

Any other interesting information about you that you would like to share with the members: If it wasn’t so hard to do from up north I would like to become a judge but I can only see this happening if more clubs are formed up here.
