Handler Profile (May 2005) ~ Sue Selby

Where do you live? Uralla, NSW

Occupation: Semi Retired as a Dog Washer (I own a Mobile Dog Wash).

Describe yourself in 25 words or less: Middle aged old grump, whom likes to think she is still 27.

Describe you agility vehicle: Commodore Wagon.

When did you start playing agility, what drew you to the sport? The Dare that a Great Dane would never do it.

Dogs and their achievements:

  • Peta - Mini Poodle CDX AD retired due to touching discs;
  • Heidi - Great Dane CDX 1/3 AD (deceased);
  • Socks - Working Kelpie CDX ADM JDM SAAD;
  • Tinkerbell - Working Kelpie AD JD, 1 pass in Novice at the GP Uralla;
  • AND, an inherited 18 month old full on BC named TEX!!!! Who has had 18 months of doing what Tex wants!

Where do you train? Home, which is Uralla Fun Paws.

What do you like about agility? The fun, the friends, and Yes, the challenges of competition and weekends away.

When did you start in agility? 1998.

What is your favourite ADAA event? (Agility/Jumping/Gamblers, etc) and Why?  Think I will say Gamblers, still have trouble doing the first 40 sec, but love the Gamble the challenge of distance work.

What was the most important piece of advice that you have been given about agility?  Enjoy.

What was the most difficult training problem that you have overcome? Lightening up, and remembering a course.

What is your most memorable moment in agility? A certain Great Dane all but landing on the scribes table at Sydney Royal instead of the Agility Table.

What will your next dog be and when do you think you will get it? Think I have just received my last.

What is your favourite training game and how do you play it? Our exercise game, the working Kelpies do, a send away of about 2 to 3 hundred metres, and then the recall for a huge reward (they come in fast).  Have yet to teach the BC the send away let alone Stay.

What is your next goal in agility? Taming Tex.
